Introducing Jodi Steele

B.Kin, B.H.Sc (PT)

A Passionate Advocate for Oncological Physiotherapy

With a deep commitment to improving the lives of those affected by cancer, Jodi Steele is a shining example of dedication, innovation, and unwavering compassion in the field of oncological physiotherapy.

Jodi’s journey began in 1997 when she earned her degree in Kinesiology, followed by a Physiotherapy degree from McMaster University in 1999. Driven by her desire to make a tangible difference, Jodi founded Cancer Rehab Inc., a not-for-profit center, in 2005. This pioneering initiative aimed to provide much-needed rehabilitation services to individuals living with the debilitating side effects of cancer treatments, including lymphedema, fatigue, mobility issues, and depression.

Recognizing the profound impact of exercise-based rehabilitation, Jodi’s visionary approach paved the way for positive change. Until 2009, Cancer Rehab Inc. was the only clinic in Canada offering these specialized services, filling a critical gap in the healthcare landscape.

In 2009, Jodi expanded her reach by designing and launching the Cancer Exercise Program at Wellspring, which is now accessible at five locations across southern Ontario. As a program leader for both in-person and online exercise classes, Jodi’s expertise and compassionate guidance continue to empower and support those on their cancer recovery journeys.

Jodi’s dedication to education and professional development is equally remarkable. Since 2007, she has been teaching Rehab Techniques in Oncology, and in 2017, she began offering additional online courses through Embodia, a leading digital healthcare platform. Most recently, Jodi collaborated with a talented team to create “Transforming Fitness,” a specialized exercise program for the transgender community.

Jodi’s accolades and achievements speak volumes about her impact. In 2023, she was honored with Niagara College’s prestigious Educator of the Year Award, a testament to her exceptional teaching abilities and the profound respect she has earned from her students.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jodi is a devoted wife to Ira Henderson and a loving mother to their sons, Menno and Idyn.  Her vibrant and compassionate spirit is truly an inspiration to all who have the privilege of working with her.

As a pioneer in the field of oncological physiotherapy, Jodi Steele’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to positively shape the lives of those living with and beyond cancer. Her unwavering commitment to improving patient outcomes and her genuine care for the well-being of her community make her a true leader in her field.
